The Mausoleums - Blackened Fawns Cleanse The Earth With Fire

I know next to nothing about The Mausoleums, other than the fact that they are from Chicago, Illinois, and that they go out of their way to be a complete enigma. Their second full-length, Blackened Fawns Cleanse The Earth With Fire, is a clusterfuck of genres, including elements of black metal, fuzz folk, psychedelic rock, and pure brain melting noise. Yet somehow the album manages to sound uniform and relatively organized. The ever-present scathing howl of fuzz and distortion will likely turn most listeners away, which is fairly understandable. At times the guitars sound like sheet metal being fed through a table saw in the grand canyon. Yet once you look past the extremely noisy and treble-heavy production, there is a lot of very interesting and intuitive song writing going on. It's not often that i hear a 60's heroin-inspired psychedelic groove flow into a blast beat. Check it out if you're in the mood for something bizarre and noisy as hell.
